Holiday Hours at the Library

The Library will be closed for the Christmas and New Years Holidays on the following dates:
 
  • Saturday, December 24
  • Sunday, December 25
  • Monday, December 26
  • Saturday December 31
  • Sunday, January 1
  • Monday, January 2

Tuesday, December 27th thru Thursday, December 29th we will be open 10-8 and Friday, December 30th 10-5. We will return to our regular hours on Tuesday, January 3rd.

Technology Sandbox--NEW Dates Added!

A Technology Sandbox is a place:
  • to be exposed to new technology
  • to try new applications
  • to play and learn about exciting current technologies 
Did you know you can download library materials for FREE? Bring your e-reader, smartphone, iPod, iPad even your laptop and we can show you how Stratford Library can bring your favorite books, music and movies to your device!

Sandboxes are scheduled for:
  • Sat., Nov. 19,  10:00-12:00 noon
  • Mon., Dec. 12, 10:00-12 noon
  • Tues., Dec.13,  5:00-7:00 pm
  • Tues., Jan., 3,  5:00-7:00 pm
  • Mon., Jan. 9,   10:00-12 noon
                 and    3:00-5:00 pm

Free College Prep Service for Teens Offered October 18th

The Stratford Library Teen Services Department will host a special “Teen Tuesday” program to help students with upcoming Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SATs) on Tuesday, October 18 from 6-8 pm. The seminar, which is free and open to the public, will be conducted by New Haven-based tutor Ellis Ratner. Call 203-385-4167 or click here for more information.

Summer Reading Winners!

The Teen Services Summer Reading Program was a huge success!  52 teens completed the program and teens read 356 books overall.  4 themed prize baskets and the 2 LIMO RIDE Winners were announced at the finale on August 16th.

School Summer Reading--Last Chance!

Still need to complete your Summer Reading Assignment? 
Stop by Teen Services for a HUGE selection of titles both fiction and nonfiction to choose from.  We even have a a select group of "Quick Reads"--great books, great authors--under 200 pages. 
School Summer Reading forms are available at the Teen Homework Desk.
Math Packets can be printed from the Board of Education website for 15 cents a page.

LIBRARY TEEN DEPARTMENT SETS “RISING STARS” PROGRAM

The Stratford Library’s Teen Services Department will hold its semi-annual “Rising Stars @ SLA Coffee House & Art Gallery” program on Saturday, May 14 from 1-5 pm in the Lovell Room.  A town-wide creative arts performance event geared to all Stratford teens, the program is free and open to the public.

A casual, unstructured afternoon of music, dance, stand-up performance and poetry, “Rising Stars @ SLA” will also exhibit a variety of artworks, sculpture and photography by Bunnell and Stratford High School teenagers.  In addition, the afternoon will offer musical performances, singers and an open mic.

Area high school and college students are encouraged to actively take part in “Rising Stars” and share their talents by registering with the Stratford Library Teen Services Department at 203.385.4167.

“TEEN ANIME” IS LIBRARY’S EXHIBIT FOR MAY

“Teen Anime Art Exhibit”, a collection of original anime art by members of the Stratford Library’s Teen Anime Club, will be the May exhibit at the Stratford library. 

Viewing hours for the “Teen Anime Art Exhibit” are Monday-Thursday: 10-8, Friday-Saturday: 10-5 and Sunday: 1-5.  The art exhibit will continue through May 31 and is located in the Main Lobby of the Stratford Library.

Programs Postponed due to SNOW!

Teen Services is postponing the the following events due to the current weather forecast.

Softening the Financial Pressure of College with Sheryl Santiago, originally scheduled for Feburary 1st is postponed until February 8th at 6:30 in the Lovell Room.

HOSA presents Juvenile Diabetes scheduled for February 2nd is postponed until April 6th at 6:30 in the Lovell Room.

Black History Month Essay Contest and Celebration

South End Community Center and Stratford Library Teen Services Department announce our annual Black History Month Contest for all Stratford students in grades 6 - 8.
Essays or art must be returned to the Stratford South End Community Center or the Stratford Library Teen Services Department by January 24, 2011.

First, Second and Third Prize winners will be formally announced and prizes awarded at a celebration event on Saturday, February 12, 2011 in The Stratford Library Lovell Room at 11:00 am.
